Singapore Mathematics | International Edition

Singapore Math explained topic by topic for families, teachers and students outside Singapore. One hundred short guides, from place value in Primary 1 to calculus in Additional Mathematics.

Singapore Mathematics is known around the world for careful sequencing, clear models and steady problem solving.

The difficulty for families abroad is usually not the Mathematics itself. It is knowing where a topic sits, what comes before it, and what Singapore schools actually expect.

This International Edition answers those questions one topic at a time.

Each guide explains:

  • where the topic sits in the current Singapore syllabus;
  • how Singapore teaches it, step by step;
  • one or two worked examples;
  • the mistakes students most often make;
  • how to adapt the topic outside Singapore; and
  • practice questions, with the answers kept separate.

This library is useful for families and teachers who want to:

  • support a child using Singapore Math materials at home or in an international school;
  • prepare a child who is moving into a Singapore school;
  • check what a Singapore level or examination expects; or
  • find the earlier topic that is causing a present difficulty.

How to use this library

Start with the topic your child is studying now. Each guide names the topics that come before it and after it.

If a topic feels too hard, go back one step. The earlier topic is often where the real gap sits.

If you are unsure of the starting level, use Singapore Math Placement and the Singapore Math Grade Levels guide.

How Singapore Names Its Levels

Primary school runs from Primary 1 (P1) to Primary 6 (P6). At the end of P6, students sit the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE).

At P5 and P6, students take Mathematics at Standard or Foundation level, depending on their Primary 4 school results.

Secondary school usually runs from Secondary 1 (Sec 1) to Secondary 4 (Sec 4). Under Full Subject-Based Banding, subjects are offered at three levels: G1, G2 and G3. MOE describes these as mapped from the earlier Normal (Technical), Normal (Academic) and Express standards.

From the 2027 graduating cohort, students sit the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate (SEC), which replaces the GCE O-Level and N-Level examinations.

Additional Mathematics is an elective for Secondary 3 and 4. It prepares students for H2 Mathematics at A-Level.

The secondary guides in this library follow G3 Mathematics unless a guide says otherwise. Where G2 differs, the guide says so.

My child is in an international school. Is this still useful?
