Digital SAT Math is a 70-minute, 44-question section divided into two 35-minute modules. College Board uses a multistage adaptive design: performance in the first module helps determine the difficulty of the second module.
The four official Mathematics domains are Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry. College Board reports about 13–15 Algebra questions, 13–15 Advanced Math questions, and 5–7 questions each in the other two domains across the section.
The calculator is available throughout Math
The digital SAT allows calculator use throughout the Math section. Bluebook includes embedded Desmos scientific and graphing calculators, and approved non-CAS handheld calculators may also be used. College Board’s current calculator policy prohibits calculators with computer algebra system functionality.
Availability does not mean every question should be solved with a calculator. Strong students decide whether algebra, estimation, substitution, graphing or numerical search is the fastest reliable route.
The four domains
- Algebra: linear equations, systems, inequalities and linear functions.
- Advanced Math: nonlinear equations and functions, equivalent expressions and higher algebraic structure.
- Problem-Solving and Data Analysis: ratios, rates, percentages, data interpretation and statistical reasoning.
- Geometry and Trigonometry: area, volume, lines, angles, triangles, circles and right-triangle trigonometry.
A preparation system
- Diagnose by domain, not just by total score.
- Repair Algebra and Advanced Math first when errors are widespread.
- Learn Desmos as a verification and representation tool, not a substitute for algebra.
- Practise student-produced responses as well as multiple choice.
- Train module pacing without rushing easy questions that establish the score path.
