AP Statistics has been revised for the 2026–27 school year to align with current introductory college Statistics courses. College Board describes the course around exploring data, sampling and experimentation, probability and simulation, and statistical inference.
The 2027 AP Statistics exam is fully digital in Bluebook. College Board lists 42 multiple-choice questions in 1 hour 30 minutes and four free-response questions in another 1 hour 30 minutes, with each section worth 50%.
Statistics is not formula substitution
Strong statistical work starts with the question, data-generating process and conditions. A numerical answer has little value if the sampling design, probability model or inference assumptions are inappropriate.
The BTT statistical loop
- Formulate the statistical question.
- Identify how the data were generated.
- Represent and explore the data.
- Select an appropriate probability or inference model.
- Check conditions.
- Compute using technology where appropriate.
- Interpret the result in context.
2027 free response
College Board lists four free-response questions under the revised exam, including a dedicated inference question involving a hypothesis test or confidence interval and multi-focus questions spanning the course’s statistical practices.
